The last so-called elections in Cuba – because what kind of elections are they without a choice – showed clearly the absurdity of the communist system on this beautiful island. These elections reminded me a little of the elections we used to have in the People’s Republic of Poland. The degree of farce and ridiculousness is definitely similar, especially when comparing the Cuban situation with the last days of the communist system in Poland. And this is a good sign.
Lech Walesa sends the letters to Ladies in White, political prisoners, the representatives of opposition and democratic dissident movement in CubaThe letters with the words of support and solidarity were handed to the recipients by Mr. Gulczynski, the director of the Lech Walesa Institute during his visit in Havana on October 18-31, 2007. The visit was the element of the program “Polish Solidarity with Cuba” in order to show the moral support to the pro-democratic activists.
From the Polish Committee of Solidarity with Cuba to Cuban friendsOn 24 of April the first board meeting of the Polish Solidarity with Cuba took place. The members of the Committee issued the Apeal to the Cuban friends in which they stressed they willingness to assist Cuba in the democratic transformation. The apeal was signed by Lech Walesa, Leszek Balcerowicz, Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Czeslaw Bielecki, Zbigniew Bujak. Tadeusz Fiszbach, Miroslaw Chojecki, Izebela Cywinska and many others.
President Walesa talks with Cuban dissidentsThe 21st of January 2006, President Lech Walesa participated in a video conference with Cuban dissidents. Lech Walesa stated that Cuba shall return as soon as possible to the international community, where democracy and liberty are the most valuable values. Walesa also stated that he is ready to support Cubans with their struggle.
